1 Chapter 5 - Red Station 1. ……..…… 2. 3. …….….. Use the above ticker tape diagrams and tell me which one is accelerating, which one is decelerating, and which one is at a constant speed. Draw a sketch of what a velocity/time graph of each of these would show. It should show if the line is going up, down, horizontal? 5. When a Ferris wheel is moving at a constant rate is it accelerating?

2 Chapter 5 Orange Station
6. Define Force. 7. Define Acceleration. 8. Define Gravity. (be sure to mention the two factors that affect it and how) 9. Define Friction. 10. Define Speed.

3 Chapter 5 Yellow Station
11. Define Velocity. 12. Define Weight. What two factors determine it? Make sure to show your work and use the appropriate units for each answer. 13. A roller coaster car rapidly picks up speed as it rolls down a slope. As it starts down the slope, its speed is 8 m/s. But 4 seconds later, at the bottom of the slope, its speed is 28 m/s. What is its average acceleration? 14. A cyclist accelerates from 0 m/s to 8 m/s in 3 seconds. What is his acceleration? 15. You are traveling in a car that is moving at a velocity of 20 m/s. Suddenly, a car 10 meters in front of you slams on it’s brakes. At that moment, you also slam on your brakes and slow to 5 m/s. Calculate the acceleration if it took 2 seconds to slow your car down.

4 Chapter 5 Green Station 16. A ball is dropped from the top of a building. After 2 seconds, its velocity is measured to be 19.6 m/s. Calculate the acceleration of the dropped ball. 17. A car changes speed from 30 km/h to 45km/h in 5 seconds. What is the average acceleration? 18. Maria accelerates at 0.5m/s/s. How fast is she going after 7 seconds? 19. Describe what is happening in this graph.

5 Chapter 5 Blue Station What is the Net force on these force block models and in what direction is the force going? The “N” means newtons of force. 12N 14N 7N 20. 21. 22. 12N 23. 2N 10N 12N 4N 11N 12N 24. 8N 14N 11N 25. If you push on a box but cannot move it, what keeps the box from moving?

6 Chapter 5 Purple Station
Solve the following problems. Show your work and put a square around your answer on your own sheet of paper. DON’T FORGET the UNIT!! 26. Calculate the velocity of a dancer who moves 20m toward the right of the stage over the course of 40s. 27. How far (in meters) will you travel in 2 minutes running at a rate of 8 m/s? 28. If your slow pace walking was 0.6 m/s, how long would it take you to walk 100 meters at that rate? (Remember your speed triangle) 29. If your fast pace walking was 1.5 m/s, how l far could you walk in 2 minutes. 30. What is the difference between static and kinetic friction? 31. How will the motion of a ball rolling on the ground change if the ball encounters a fictional force that opposes its motion? D S T

7 Chapter 5 Brown Station 32. How many seconds will it take for a satellite to travel 450 km at a rate of 120m/s? 33. If a cyclist in the Tour de France traveled southwest a distance of 12,250 meters in one hour, what would the velocity of the cyclist be in km/h? 34. A trip to Cape Canaveral Florida takes 10 hours. The distance is 816 km. Calculate the average speed. 35. Describe what is happening in this graph.

8 Chapter 5 Pink Station 36. What is matter? 37. What is a pure substance? 38. What is the difference between speed and velocity? 39. State the law of universal gravitation. Convert the following: cm = __________ meters cm3 = ________ ml kg = __________ grams
