MLA Format How many of you have used MLA before in another class?
How comfortable are you with citing a source? Show me: Can’t do it at all, but I am ready to learn it! I get the idea, but need help. I can do it, but I might make a mistake or two. I can do anything!
3
MLA Format Example Internet
Author’s last name, First name. Title of Webpage. Date of article. Publisher of website, date of creation. Medium of publication. Date of access. Where would you find each of these parts on the webpage? Punctuation is extremely important!
4
Credible sources Where is the information coming from?
magazine vs. newspaper Internet - .edu, .org, .gov vs. .com, .net _1_siesta-beach-sand-and-surf-bustling-beaches How recent is the information? For our purposes, the article should be published within 30 days of the due date.
5
Observation vs. Inference
Observation – using senses to collection information Give me some observations about the classroom. Inference – after observation/data collection, a logical explanation to a question or situation based on prior knowledge and experience Give me some inferences about the classroom.
6
Observation vs. Inference
Which is the inference? The water is blue. The sun is shining. It is a warm day. Can you think of other examples of observations and inferences about the picture?
7
Inferences as claims “It is a warm day.” Why is this an inference?
Why is it not an observation? Why could the audience think it is a warm day? What observations could we use in real life (not the picture) to support our inference/claim?
