Evolution Exam Review!
2
Evolution & Natural Selection
Natural selection shows us that evolution occurs within a species over time. Individual organisms do not evolve—species change over time due to favorable traits being passed down. Organisms that have traits making them more likely to survive in a specific environment are the ones that will be able to reproduce and pass their genes/traits down to their offspring. Organisms that do not have favorable traits will likely not survive to reproduce and pass those traits down.
3
Evidences for Evolution
Be familiar with the 9 evidences for evolution discussed in your packet on pages 4-8. Be sure to recognize that morphology includes both homologous structures as well as vestigial structures (know what each of these mean and be able to give/recognize an example of each).
4
Factors of Evolution Know the 4 factors that influence evolution and know how they relate to natural selection (this was in your notes).
5
Allele Frequency Understand the concept of allele frequency, and be able to give the frequency of an allele in a given generation when a data table is provided. Know the different types of graphs showing how allele frequencies can change in a population over time. Be able to identify a graph of each and know when they may occur. Directional Selection Stabilizing Selection Disruptive Selection
