1 Figure 4. p38α mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) blockade reduces interstitial volume in obstructed kidneys but does not reduce the number of infiltrating interstitial leukocytes. Figure 4. p38α mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) blockade reduces interstitial volume in obstructed kidneys but does not reduce the number of infiltrating interstitial leukocytes. (a) Compared with normal kidneys (checkered bar), there was a dramatic increase in interstitial volume by point counting 7 d after ureteric ligation in animals treated with vehicle (open bar). This was reduced by p38α blockade with NPC treatment (solid bar). (b) NPC treatment (solid bar) did not reduce the number of interstitial macrophages, T cells, and total leukocytes in day 7 obstructed kidneys compared with vehicle treatment (open bar). Data are represented as the mean (±1 SD) of groups of eight animals. Cosimo Stambe et al. JASN 2004;15: ©2004 by American Society of Nephrology
