The story of Jonathan Edwards

2 Who is Jonathan? He is: a world-class athlete,
the holder of the world record in triple jump, Great Britain's most successful medal winning athlete, an honorary doctor of the University of Exeter, a father of two

3 A little biography Born in London, England in 1966.
Attended West Buckland School. Made his breakthrough to high-class sporting in 1995. Won the Olympic gold in Sidney 2000. He retired from profesional sporting in 2003. Lost his faith in the beginning of 2007.

4 Athletics career His potential for the triple jump was spotted in a early age. As a youngster he was strong in sport all-round. Won bronze medal in the World Championships in 1993. Made a big breakthrough in 1995. First time in the history a man jumped over 18 metres.

5 Athletics career His farthest jump was (60 feet 5 and a half inches). It was wind assisted, ergo it wasn’t considered a world record. He went on to the Atlanta Olympic Games as a favourite in the triple jump, but he was bested by Kenny Harrison. His jump m was the farthest jump which wasn’t awarded the gold in the Olympic history.

6 Athletics career He won his first and last Olympic gold in Sidney 2000. He was awarded CBE after the Sidney Olympic’s. He held all the golds for the “four majors” (Olympic Games, World Championships, Commonwealth Games & European Championships) in 2002.

7 Athletics career He retired in 2003, after the World Championships.
At that point he was the most successful medal winning athlete in Great Britain.

8 Post-athletics career
After retirement he pursued a media career as a television presenter. He mainly worked for BBC as a sports commentator. He also participated in a christian programme called Songs of Praise. He is a member of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, representing athletes in the organisation of the 2012 Summer Olympics.

9 Personal life He was a christian until 2007, when he lost his faith.
He is married to Alison Edwards. With whom he has two sons, Nathan and Sam. He lives in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne.
