2 Recap! Expositional Preaching Biblical Theology The Gospel Conversion

3 9 Marks of a Healthy Church
A Biblical understanding and the practice of Evangelism!

4 Evangelism! Evangelist!

5 Four critical questions
What is evangelism? Who should evangelise Why should we evangelise? How should we evangelise?

6 1. What is evangelism? Evangelism is not imposition
True evangelism is not just a Personal Testimony Evangelism is not social action or political involvement Evangelism is not apologetics/a defence of Christian beliefs

7 So what really is evangelism?
Evangelism is spreading or communicating the good news, the gospel message to unbelievers. The message of evangelism is the Gospel.

8 So what really is this Gospel?
The Gospel or the good news is that the one and only God, who is holy, made us in his own image to know Him. But we sinned and cut ourselves off from him. In his great love, God became a man in Jesus, lived a perfect life, and died on the cross, thus fulfilling the law himself, and taking on himself the punishment for the sins of those who would ever turn and trust in him. He rose again from the dead, showing that God accepted Christ’s sacrifice and that God’s wrath against us had been exhausted.

9 So what really is this Gospel?
He ascended and presented his completed work to his heavenly Father. He now sends his spirit to call us through this message to repent of our sins and trust in Christ alone for our forgiveness. If we repent of our sins and trust in Christ we are born again into a new life and eternal life with God.

10 Introspection! Is this the way you understand evangelism?
Is this the way we, collectively as Northside, understand the meaning of evangelism? If so: Why are you not sharing it? Do we lack lost people in our neighbourhoods? Maybe you are asking: Who should evangelise?

11 2. Who should evangelise? Romans 1:14-5
Is this simply Paul’s description of his particular call as an evangelist? Do his words only apply to himself and the other apostles? Or do they apply to us as well? Matt. 28:18-20 This commission is not limited to the apostles but is for all disciples of Jesus-those who heard his words directly and us who read them today

12 2. Who should evangelise? Acts 15:35
The others taught and preached as well as did Paul and Barnabas. Acts 8:1-4 It wasn’t just the apostles who were evangelising activities of those who had been scattered (v. 4) which included “all except the apostles”(v. 1).

13 2. Who should evangelise? Acts 11:19-21
Again we see ordinary Christians spreading the good news

14 3. Why should we evangelise?
But what is the right reason for telling the good news? A love for God (1Cor. 10:31) A desire to be obedient to the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20; 1Cor. 9:16-17). A love for the lost (Matt. 9:36; Rom. 10:1).

15 4. How should we evangelise?
By preaching the Word, by spreading the message, by telling the good news. Biblically that is how we evangelise. But how exactly? Tell people with honesty that if they repent and believe, they will be saved-but it will be costly.

16 4. How should we evangelise?
Tell people with honesty that if they repent and believe, they will be saved-but it will be costly. Tell people with urgency that if they repent and believe they will be saved-but they decide now. Tell people with joy that if they repent and believe the good news, they will be saved- however difficult it may be, it is worth it. Use the Bible

17 4. How should we evangelise?
Remember to pray for the people you are sharing with. Build relationships with non-Christians because these are the mission field. Work together with other Christians to take the gospel to those who do not live around any Christians.

18 A Quote! “……To evangelise is to declare on the authority of God what he has done to save sinners, to warn men of their lost condition, to direct them to repent, and to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.” This should be done by all believers to all people!!!!!!!!

19 A challenge! Have you been obedient to the Great commission? If not:
Do you love God? Do you have the desire to obey the Great Commission? Do you love the lost? What are you doing about it? What is stopping you from evangelism?
