Instrument Commissioning SDO SOWG - January 18-19, 2007 Purpose/Goal:
Provide and review updates to the instrument commissioning timeline. Additional input provided as part of instrument PERs Updates to the Launch and GTO periods are not reflected on the attached timelines. If time permits, they will be incorporated prior to the face-to-face meeting.
2
AIA Commissioning (From PER) (1 of 3)
All AIA subsystems will be turned ON and checked one by one. At Launch, Power to AIA is OFF, and decontamination relays are closed As soon as observatory is power-positive, (about L+2.5 hours), Turn ON decontamination power bus (S/C command). Turn on AIA to minimal main power state Health monitor via AIA housekeeping Checkout mechanisms (partially) Turn on operational heater service Checkout operational heaters Set temperatures to assist outgassing Turn on ISS/GT Partial checkout of GT-S/C signal Turn on CEBs Partial CEB checkout
3
AIA Commissioning (From PER) (2 of 3)
S/C HGA and high-rate data checkout Checkout CEBs/CCDs Use LEDs during checkout Complete checkout of mechanisms Open Doors ~ on Day 30 Calibrate GT/ACS (first calibration, long form) (TBD) Fine tune the thermal control system (operational heaters control parameters) Turn off decontamination heaters Cool the CCDs Checkout CEBs/CCDs with cold CCDs Establish focus positions Check filterwheel filters and calibrate focal planes with cold CCDs Select and set optimal focus position for each wavelength
4
AIA Commissioning (From PER) (1 of 3)
Perform calibrations (First in stand-alone) (Then with the rest of the Observatory) GT/ISS calibration maneuver (second calibration) S/C jitter evaluation as function of reaction wheel speed Perform calibration maneuvers (coordinated at Observatory level) Off-Pointing Flat-Field calibration maneuver HMI/AIA Roll Calibration maneuver Fine tune GT/ISS calibration for Control Guide Telescope
5
HMI Commissioning (From PER) (1 of 2)
All HMI subsystems will be turned ON and checked one by one. At Launch, Power to HMI is OFF, and CCD decontamination relays are closed (ON position) As soon as observatory is power-positive, (about L+2.5 hours), Turn ON decontamination power bus (S/C command). Open door on ~Day 30 Fine tune the thermal control system (operational heaters control parameters) Turn off decontamination heaters Cool the CCDs Calibrate focal planes with cold CCDs Select and set optimal focus position
6
HMI Commissioning (From PER) (1 of 2)
Perform calibrations/characterizations (First in stand-alone) (Then with the rest of the Observatory) S/C jitter evaluation as function of reaction wheel speed Perform calibration maneuvers (coordinated at Observatory level) Off-Pointing Flat-Field calibration maneuver HMI/AIA Roll Calibration maneuver Leg adjustment after GT calibration
7
EVE Commissioning (From PER)
At Launch, Power to EVE is OFF Survival heaters are enabled (thermostatically controlled) CCD decontamination relays are closed (ON position) GTO Operations EVE remains powered OFF during GTO Decontamination heaters are ON to prevent condensation on CCDs while observatory outgassing occurs Commissioning EVE powered ON Perform health and safety checks Open doors Test all channel modes of operation Verify science operational modes Verify filter integrity Perform calibration maneuvers (coordinated at Observatory level) Cruciform scan Field-of-view map calibration maneuver
