Total War World War I was considered a “total war” meaning the countries in the war devoted all resources to war. Rationing (limiting the amount of goods people could buy) was used to save goods for the war Propaganda (advertising tactic) used to encourage men to join the army, to create pride of country, bash the other side, and to provide guilt for not helping in the war
