What is depression? Depression is feelings of sadness, loneliness, and helplessness for long periods of time (more than normal even after suffering a big loss). Symptoms include Difficultly concentrating and remembering Fatigue Lack of energy Persistent sad feelings Insomnia or excessive sleeping Persistent aches and pains Loss of interest in activities that you once loved

Statistics About 20% of teens will experience depression sometime before adulthood. About 5% of teens are suffering from major depression. Depression can lead to suicide. Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for people aged It can be hard to recognize depression but physical symptoms tend to be the best indicator. Physical symptoms can include increase in appetite, insomnia, low energy, hypersomnia. Often, signs of depression are seen as normal teen age behavior. Depression goes beyond normal feelings of sadness and despair. Depression can be a result of life situations or chemical imbalances.
