1 Welcome to Open House!

2 Attendance If your child is out sick, you must send in a note within 3 days of the absence or it will automatically change the absence to unexcused. You may send a parent note or a doctor’s note. You may only send 8 parent notes a year. If the absence is unexcused you will receive a letter from the principal, letting you know that you have at least 1 unexcused absence.

3 Kidblog http://kidblog.org/MrsParkersClass-18/
We are using Kidblog in the classroom and at home to incorporate technology. This is an easy way for students to become familiar with the computer and/or a device. Please allow the students to login (with your assistance) and answer the questions, so they can become more familiar with the keys on a computer and/or how to work on a device.

4 Accelerated Reader (AR)
During the first few weeks of school, students took the STAR Early Literacy assessment on the computer. This is one assessment that we use to determine students literacy skills. We use many other assessments in the classroom and combine the information to determine literacy skills. You will receive a printout that explains the findings of the assessment. At the beginning of second quarter we will start using AR in the classroom and at home. This program is goal based. Students read a book that is on the AR list and then are allowed to take quizzes at school on the computer to try to achieve their goal. This is not for a grade but it is a researched based program, proven to increase students’ fluency and comprehension skills.

5 Raz-Kids Raz-Kids is an interactive reading tool for our students to practice reading fluency and comprehension. The students have a log in and a password to get into their reading account. You will receive an asking you to register for this. Please make sure you register, as we will have homework assignments that come from this website.
