3-4 Equations of Lines Forms of Equations
Slope-Intercept Form: y = mx + b Point-Slope Form: y – y1 = m(x – x1) m means slope b means y intercept

Special types of lines If the slope is 0 the equation is written as y = b (i.e. y = 6) If the slope is undefined the equation is written as x = x-intercept (i.e. x = 2)

Slope Intercept Form Ex 1: Write the equation of a line in slope intercept form given: m = 3 and b = 2 Ex 2: Write the equation of a line in slope intercept form given: m =2 and passes through (-2, -5) Ex 3: Write the equation of a line in slope intercept form given points: A (0,3) and B (-2, -1)

Parallel and Perpendicular Lines
Ex 4: Write the equation of the line passing through (-7, -4) parallel to y = ½ x + 9 Ex 5: Write the equation of the line passing through (-2, 2) perpendicular to y = 5x - 8
