2 FIGURE 1 Four isoforms of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) detected in ectopic endometrium after culture on the chorioallantoic membrane at various time points. Duplicate samples are shown for each time point tested. The upper panel shows polymerase chain reaction products corresponding to VEGF189, VEGF165, VEGF145, and VEGF121; the lower panel shows polymerase chain reaction products for glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase. 3 FIGURE 2 Ratio of vascular endothelial growth factor165 (VEGF165) to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) in human endometrial transplants after 0, 24, 48, and 72 hours of incubation on the chorioallantoic membrane. The concentration of VEGF165 mRNA is normalized to the concentration of GAPDH mRNA. The ratio of VEGF to GAPDH directly after explantation was 2.5 to 21 copies of VEGF mRNA for each copy of GAPDH mRNA. The ratio increased 1.2- to 14-fold at 24 hours, 5.4- to 11-fold at 48 hours, and 1.6- to 11-fold at 72 hours of incubation. Compared with samples at 0 hours, these increases were statistically significant (P=.014; n = 15 at each time point). Kressin. VEGF mRNA in eutopic and ectopic endometrium. Fertil Steril 2001.
