Let the light of Christ shine in our lives
Gather The Lord be with you And also with you Let the light of Christ shine in our lives

Receive How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help? From the first letter of John, chapter 3, verse 17

Engage In our Year Group Eucharists towards the end of this term we shall be celebrating harvest. As part of our Harvest Celebration we shall be remembering those who are in need. To do something about this we are asking everyone to bring in some food that can go to a local Food Bank and present these at your Eucharist (see next slide). To make the gifts special please create and decorate a container (or containers) e.g. a cardboard box, with pictures and colours which celebrate harvest. Continues ….

How you can help … The organisers of our local foodbanks supply bags of food to people in need. To help the Foodbank have a good range of food available, Bishop Justus School has been nominated as ‘a dinners school’ Please donate items to make up a dinner: tinned meat suitable for a main meal (e.g. chunky chicken, stewed steak, minced beef, ravioli, hot dogs, corn beef, ham) as well as tinned vegetables.

The foodbank has asked for no baked beans please.

Engage Video suggestion … Feeding Britain: Food banks on the rise as 'hunger stalks the UK‘ Activity suggestion … Find out about Food Banks. Plan and create your Harvest Gifts containers. Find out what food and other items Food Banks need. Discussion ideas … Why are there still people in the UK who don’t have enough money to buy food? Why is there social inequality in the UK? Discussion techniques - Go back to the Bible passage ask “How does the theme link with the Bible passage?” Discuss the question in pairs for 30 seconds then invite a response from each pair. Use quick-fire answers e.g. throw a soft bean bag / toy to a student, when they answer they throw it back and you quickly throw to another student. Simplify the question - Invite quick one-word answers, write them on the board, then reflect on the answers – see connections.

Respond Amen God, we give you thanks for good food
[Reflect for a minute on the worship theme and our engagement …] God, we give you thanks for good food and for all the people who grow and prepare our food. We remember those who struggle to pay for enough food. We pray they will get support and that there will be an end to unfairness. Amen Prayer / reflection technique – Give a summary of the theme and any responses that students may have made, then invite everyone to be still (remind no books open etc – lessen distraction). To pray or reflect on today’s worship. Be quiet for one minute. Then say the prayer …

Go out into the world with the light of Christ
