2. What?
Following Christopher Columbus and other European’s exploration of the Americas, a widespread exchange of animals, plants, culture, disease, and ideas began between the two hemispheres. Most goods found in the Western Hemisphere or New World had never before been seen in the West or Old World. Crops brought back to Europe by explorers soon became essential goods in Europe. Similarly, crops introduced by Europeans to the Americas flourished and supported growth in populations.
