2016 NPS Accomplishments: Collected 100 newly emerged trout fry from Stehekin River spawning habitat for genetic analysis to determine species (RBT, WCT or hybrid). Identification of newly emerged fry is an alternative method used to determine spawning locations of WCT. Stehekin River side channel index reaches were snorkeled on six occasions from May – September. Survey goals were to document WCT spawning activities and monitor abundance and distribution of salmonids. Kokanee spawning surveys were conducted on CPUD index sites nine times from September 9th to October 24th. eDNA sample collection was performed at 115 sites in Stehekin basin, samples will be examined for bull trout presence. We plan to have these samples examined for EBT, RBT and WCT presence to establish a current distribution of salmonids in the Stehekin and its tributaries.
