3 What We Do Monitor compliance with the Common Assessment Plan (CAP)
Criminal Background Check Annual Bloodborne Pathogen Training GPA (content, professional education, UI, and overall) (2.5) Grades in content/professional education (C or better) Safety Education Module Mandated Reporter Training/acknowledgement Student Teaching Agreement 1) Go to Council website to show CBC/BBP info. If you’ve already done a CBC through the Council you do not need to do it again. If you did with another org/institution you do. If you don’t know, check the student portal – show portal—ask Eric to get up test student. 3) Must schedule by April 12, 2010 – bring form to 505 E. Green and speak to Donna/Kim to schedule appointment – must do it in person.

Middle grade endorsements (grades 5-8) Content specific Typically 18 hours in subject Exceptions: Math/English as a Second Language/Bilingual Recommend at least two Bilingual/ESL (C&I/DEIL) State needs: math, science, foreign language, ESL, bilingual

All middle grade endorsements require Middle Grade Coursework CI 410, EPS 427, EPSY 430 (if from this campus) Online through UI (Summers) Other institutions (link on CoTE website) Most students take between junior/senior year Can delay certification and take summer after graduation

Social Science requirements met (If MG courses are taken) Close in General Science (14-18) Most physical and life science courses count Close in Language Arts (13-20) English, Journalism, Speech, Creative Writing, BTW Something outside of these areas should check with Council Area of Concentration gives you a start Can use Gen Ed courses if they apply

Foreign language K-4, 5-8: 18 hours of coursework or pass content test Recommend passing content test for any foreign language endorsement (for “Highly Qualified” Status) If you want to be endorsed in a foreign language outside grade range of certificate, come talk to us.

No additional cert tests taken first year of program Elementary/Middle Grade Must take/pass prior to student teaching (state law) Assessment of Professional Teaching: Grades K-9 (or non grade specific version) Generally taken during student teaching

12 ISBE Rules No professional education or content course with a grade lower than a ‘C’ may be used toward certification, endorsement, or approval No professional education or content course taken for CR/NC or Pass/fail may be used toward certification, endorsement or approval AP credit MAY be used

Certification Requirements – Council on Teacher Education Advice on endorsements do not “waive” degree requirements-always check with Michael regarding plans.
