3.7 Formulas Goal: To solve for a given variable in a formula
2
? Most Common Formulas A = • r2 d = r • t P = 2l + 2w E = mc2 F =ma
Area is 56.2 km2 ? A = • r2 d = r • t P = 2l + 2w E = mc2 F =ma
3
Why would you want to solve for a formula?
Solving for a variable in your formula can give you more specific information Solving for a variable in your formula can help you to manipulate an object Example: F=MA
4
How to Solve Formulas… Our goal is to undo everything that is being done to the variable that we are trying to solve for by doing the opposite operation.
5
Literal Equations Solve a formula for the unknown variable
d = r • t t
6
Literal Equations Solve for “h”
2• • 2 r
7
A formula for the average “k” of three numbers is: Solve for “c”.
3k = a + b + c - a - b - a - b 3k – a - b = c
8
Solve for “r”: C = 2 r
9
Solve for “m”: E = m c2
13
You Try: Solve for l: P=2l +35
14
You Try: Solve for t: v = 3k t
15
Last one….. Solve for h A = bh 2
