1 Light & Color When light passes through a prism, refraction causes the visible light spectrum

2 Visible Light Spectrum
We see different frequencies of light as different colors To help you remember the order, think of our friend ROY G. BIV!

3 Additive Primary Colors
light alone. Likewise the color cyan is formed by adding green light and blue light. The cyan is also brighter than its two components.  Additive Primary Colors The three primary colors of light are Red Blue Green

4 Making new colors We use the additive color process to see different colors (the energies are added together) When equal amounts of the three colors are mixed, you get form white light!

5 Additive Primary Colors
light alone. Likewise the color cyan is formed by adding green light and blue light. The cyan is also brighter than its two components.  Additive Primary Colors When there are unequal amounts of the colors, you can make all new colors! Online light and color demo!

6 light alone. Likewise the color cyan is formed by adding green light and blue light. The cyan is also brighter than its two components.  How we see Photoreceptors in our eyes called cones cells help us to see color Cones respond to color When the brain receives a signal from only a red cone cells, we think red. People who are color blind are missing one or more type of cone cells

7 Light Transmission Light can be transmitted, absorbed, or reflected
Transparent: the light is transmitted easily; the image is clear; no scattering Translucent: the light is transmitted but with no detail; image is unclear or “fuzzy”; light is scattered Opaque: does not transmit light (either reflected or absorbed)

8 Light Transmission On TRANSPARENT OBJECTS, the color of the object is the color of the light it transmits On OPAQUE objects, the color is the color it reflects

9 Subtractive Primary Colors
The three primary pigment colors are Yellow Blue Red When equal amounts of the three colors are mixed, you get form black!

10 How we see colors Most of what we see is reflected light
The reflected light is what is not ABSORBED by the material we are looking at

11 Cartoons in the paper Look at the Sunday morning comics that are being passed around Notice the colors in the comic

12 Enlarged Picture Notice the colors that become more clear as the magnifications increase

13 How a TV works Move the slider to zoom in and out to show how colors on a tv work!
