Founded in 1900 by, Andrew Carnegie Known as the Carnegie Technical Schools at the time 1912 became the Carnegie Institute of Technology Named Carnegie Mellon University in 1967

Carnegie Mellon University is a private school Located in downtown Pittsburgh, PA It has no religious affiliation Is a co-ed school Considered a medium sized school, 12,587 attend 143 acre campus Jared L. Cohon University center

Early decision is November 1st  Regular decision is January 1st Portfolio and design project for acceptance into Industrial Design

5 Academics CMU offers many undergraduate degrees, in Engineering, Architecture, Psychology, Computer Science, and Business There are numerous interdisciplinary programs You can study abroad Summer internships

Average financial aid package is $38,231 50% of first year students receive financial aid The FAFSA is required to be considered for federal and state aid Financial aid deadline is January 1st

8 Career Services Through the design school you are given opportunities to work with big name companies, locally as well IDeATe, interactive design, arts, and technology network allows students to collaborate with students and faculty throughout the entire university Also have a career and professional development center at the university that helps with internships and job placement Confluence is a annual career fair held in the design school

9 Social Activities  Not only can you attend CMU's sports you can attend all of our sports teams here in Pittsburgh  24 sororities and fraternities Buggy race

Includes industrial design, graphic design, and environmental design First three semesters students are introduced to product, communication, and environment. After that you decide what you want to focus on You are required to focus on two of these areas CMU required classes are Psychology, English, Global History, Computing, and Cultures  One of the only undergraduate programs that allows you to customize your degree

12 Questions How many students apply to the Industrial Design program?
Would it help if I took a summer program there? Would an internship help me? Could you take engineering and design classes? Aside from financial aid how much scholarship money is available for merit? Do you have a better chance of getting in if you go early action? How many students continue with a graduate degree in design? How quickly are people hired out of college? Are your math scores more important then English scores when applying to school of Design? What other school of Design would you feel comparable to yours?
