When dealing with names such as mom or dad, a special rule applies. These types of names are capitalized unless they are preceded with a possessive pronoun such as my or our.

Explanation: A run-on sentence occurs when two sentences (independent clauses) run together without proper punctuation or connection. To correct a run-on sentence, do one of three things:
- Place end marks after each independent clause to make two sentences.
-place a comma and appropriate coordinate conjunction to connect the two clauses.
-Place a semicolon between the two clauses if they relate closely enough in meaning.
