8 INTRODUCTION Browse the quotes and definitions of heroes.
For the HOOK, you want to grab the attention of your reader. You may use one of the quotes, definitions, or create a question about heroes for your HOOK. The introduction starts out broad/vague and gets narrower. Use the EVERYBODY, MOST, SOME lines to do this. The last sentence of your introduction identifies who you think is most heroic and tells why. Include THREE CHARACTER TRAITS that make your character the most heroic.

9 BODY POINT 1 Turn your first reason mentioned in your thesis into a sentence. For example, my thesis is: Darry Curtis is the most heroic character in The Outsiders because he is compassionate, selfless, and a leader. So, my BODY POINT 1 topic sentence would be: Darry is heroic because he is compassionate.

10 BODY POINT 2 Turn your second reason mentioned in your thesis into a sentence. For example, my thesis is: Darry Curtis is the most heroic character in The Outsiders because he is compassionate, selfless, and a leader. So, my BODY POINT 2 topic sentence would be: Darry is a hero because he is selfless.

11 BODY POINT 3 Turn your third reason mentioned in your thesis into a sentence. For example, my thesis is: Darry Curtis is the most heroic character in The Outsiders because he is compassionate, selfless, and a leader. So, my BODY POINT 2 topic sentence would be: Darry is the most heroic character because he is a leader.

12 CONCLUSION Rewrite your thesis backwards.
For example, my thesis is: Darry Curtis is the most heroic character in The Outsiders because he is compassionate, selfless, and a leader. So, my CONCLUSION topic sentence would be: Compassion, selflessness, and his leadership qualities make Darry Curtis the most heroic character in The Outsiders.

13 Sentence B (conclusion)
Johnny Cade, although a fictional character, could be a real life hero because he found the strength to overcome his fear and cautiousness to save others’ lives in the novel.

18 EXAMPLE Darry is heroic because he is compassionate. According to the text, Darry says that he cares about Ponyboy and can’t lose another family member. This proves that he is heroic because it shows that he is vulnerable and genuinely cares about his family. From the reading I also know that Darry worries about Ponyboy’s safety. By worrying about Pony’s well being, Darry is revealing that he is concerned about another person, and true heroes use their compassion as a driving force behind why they help others. His compassion makes Darry a hero.

20 Sample Intro Christopher Reeve once said, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Everybody thinks a hero is this magical mystery, but it could be a normal person. Most people think heroes are only in movies and don’t exist, but they are all over. Some people appreciate heroes for helping and making a difference. After reading The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton, I noticed that Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, and Dallas Winston are heroes. Johnny Cade is the most heroic character in The Outsiders because he is fearless, bold, and humble.
