1 COMMAS TO JOIN INDEPENDENT CLAUSES
Tammy Bell and Antoinette Jamroz-Pazmandi

2 THE DO’S OF FANBOYS Use a comma with FANBOYS EXAMPLES: FOR AND NOR BUT
YET SO

3 FOR EXAMPLE We packed our bags last night, for we had no time left to pack before the trip. We packed a swimming suit, flip flops, and we brought a light jacket. Tammy, nor Ann remembered to pack the beach towels. Luckily the cruise ship had extra towels, but Tammy and Ann were not to crazy of the idea to use the towels from the ship. Tammy was hoping that the ship would dock so she could go to the mall, or she could find a small store to buy a new beach towel. When the cruise ship docked Tammy and Ann went rushing to the stores for new beach towels, yet the stores were sold out of beach towels. Tammy and Ann ran to the cruise ship unfortunately the ship was gone, so they had to rent a jet ski to catch the ship.

4 THE DO NOTS OF COMMAS Do not use a comma unless there is a complete sentence on both sides of the FANBOYS. Do not use commas in between names conjoined with and. Do not use commas if the FANBOYS connects a verb to a verb.
