Chapter 12-3 Part 1 Friction: A Force That Opposes Motion
Pages
2
Suppose you and a younger sister or brother are swimming at a neighborhood pool. Your sister or brother asks why there are signs everywhere that say “NO RUNNING”. What would be your answer?
3
Friction Friction is a force that opposes motion between two surfaces that are touching.
4
All surfaces have “hills and valleys” which stick to the “hills and valleys” of another surface when they touch.
5
Friction Factors Rougher surfaces create more friction. (more hills and valleys) Greater force creates more friction. (hills and valleys come into closer contact)
