Trench Warfare Notes Not “traditional notes”…more visuals! But, What should you be looking for and/or writing down? Your assignment/test (Thurs. and Fri.) will be creating a pamphlet on surviving life in the Trenches. Ask yourself, “What would a soldier need to survive life in the Trenches?” (food, gear/supplies, weapons, routines, mental things, etc. In other words, write down, draw, make lists on what soldiers need to do to survive in the Trenches. YOU NEED AT LEAST 7 TIPS OF SURVIVAL. You will turn your notes in along with your project on Friday…meaning they are MANDATORY!

Life in the Trenches About 1 in 2 men would return alive and unwounded from the trenches On an individual level, a typical British soldier's year could be divided as follows: 15% front line 10% support line 30% reserve line 20% rest 25% other (hospital, travelling, leave, training courses, etc.)

Into no mans land as artillery rained down on you! Maintain position and out flank the enemy! (bleed enemy dry)

Ticket to Leave… All of you are soldiers fighting in the Trenches during WWI. You have been asked to explain how to survive the Trenches to new soldiers. List and explain 3 things that all soldiers must do to survive life in the Trenches. Answers should be at least a ½ page in length. Use First Person writing ( I statements) as well as information from your notes!

8-29-12 Word: Pamphlet or brochure
Def: A small booklet or pamphlet, often containing promotional material or product information. Bellwork: List and explain 3 parts of the Trenches or 3 pieces of a soldiers’ uniform that are important for survival in the Trenches. Use your Notes

Today’s Process Plan out your pamphlet…you only get 1 piece of white paper! So, do a rough draft/outline on the back of the rubric. Make sure you have all of the required words/phrases, a visual, and 8 tips before you begin the final copy! Begin your final copy…use pencil first in case of mistakes.
