2 Where did the Habsburg (Holy Roman) Empire stretch to?
Their country stretched from the Balkans, Hungary into the Italian Peninsula. What did the Pragmatic Sanction do? This was an agreement that would allow Maria Theresa to inherit all of the Habsburg land from her father Charles VI. List 10 ethnic groups of Maria Theresa’s (Holy Roman) empire. Belgians, Bohemians, Croatians, Germans, Hungarians, Italians, Poles, Romanians, Serbs, and Slovenes. Why was the Hasburg Empire difficult to rule? The empire was stretched out pretty far and the gap between the different languages made it hard to communicate and rule effectively.

3 What German state was Austria's chief rival?
The north German state of Brandenburg-Prussia. The main reason was the fact that the Hohenzollern wanted to expand. What family ruled Brandenburg-Prussia and What religion were they? The Hohenzollern family ruled and they were Protestant. What title did Fredrick I get and who did he imitate? He became the King of Prussia and imitated Louis XIV of France. He wanted to maintain a large, lavish court.

4 How was Fredrick William I different than Fredrick I?
He did not like the French ways and ended much of this fathers lavish spending. Used the extra money to make Prussia get stronger. What did Fredrick William I always talk about? He always talked about soldiers and economy. He was a strict military leader who would punish his men to make sure they would obey his commands instantly. 3 accomplishments of Fredrick William I. Efficient system of government, encouraged trade and the development of new industries, required that all parents send their children to go to school.

5 Why did Fredrick the Great want Silesia?
He wanted it for the iron deposits and to farm. Describe the alliances after the Diplomatic Revolution? The alliance once were Austria and Great Brittan against the French. In 1756, G.B. allied itself to Prussia. To keep Prussian from becoming too powerful, France joined with Austria and Russia. After the D.R. the new balance of power would be France & Austria against Prussia & G.B. What is the Seven Years’ War called in North America? It is known as the French and Indian War.

6 Who won the Seven Years’ War?
No real winner, Russia would drop out and sign a peace agreement when Empress Elizabeth would die and Peter III would become Czar. Prussia would still control Silesia. How did Britain benefit from the Seven Years’ War? The would take over most of the French colonies in North America. They would also maintain their dominance of India. Why were European powers reluctant to fight another war after the Seven Years’ War? The war drained the economy and took many lives. It would take years for the countries to rebuild after the war. Fredrick the Great of Prussia was at war for his first 23 years and would spend his next 23 working to strengthen his empire
