1. Web Applications Tony Lieu CIS 3610 - Project
Abstract
I chose to do my project on implementing web applications that will provide benefits to the user. One web application I implemented on my website is a To- Do-List. It allows me to quickly type down some tasks I need to do for the day and as well as keeping track of what I still need to do. Another web application I also installed was a calendar. The calendar allows me to create an event such as an assignment due or and upcoming test on a specific day. These web applications are useful tools that help improve my productivity and management my time.
Statement of the Problem
Even though people have become more dependent on technology, in some cases they choose not to.
One example is that some schools still do not have any type website or online hub that students can get information out of. All they can do is rely on the teacher to provide the information to them. Which gives the students a disadvantage when it comes to learning. What theses schools do not see are the potential benefits that web applications can provide to the students.
Another example is that some businesses are still selling their products locally. These businesses do not see the benefits that an online present can bring them. They are not using web applications to help promote their products and to increase their reach to more people leading to better profits for the business.
Theory Application
A web application is a client-server program that runs on the computer’s web browser. These applications can range from something simple as a clock to a multi-platform ing service. There also built on many different programming languages such as HTML, PHP, Javascript, CSS and Bootstrap. Some examples of web applications are eLearning and eCommerce which are tools that help benefit schools and businesses.
“The very knowledge that their work was monitored and overseen by someone seems to motivate students to work much harder to complete the desired task” (Gluchmanova, 2016). This is an example of what an eLearning web application such as Moodle can provide to both the students and teachers. By using this application teachers have more information on how the student is doing in the class. They can use this information to help the student if they are falling behind. This benefits the student as well because Moodle provides the necessary information for when to complete assignments and allow discussion with the teacher.
In an article, by Lisa Mcgreevy, it states that "Retailers that fail to respond to the new era of mobility face being isolated and left behind as the behaviour of their customers change” (Mcgreevy, 2014). This shows how eCommerce, another web application, is benefiting to people that are using it. Since it provides a better customer experience such as convenience and ease of use. It also gives the seller more opportunities to sell their products because it is online anyone can see it and it is always open.
Recommendations
I would demonstrate the features that web applications has to offer to the school or business’s needs. As well as show examples of how others are using the application to their benefit. Lastly, I would explain to them the programming languages behind the web applications and show how they can create their own application.
