2 FIRST THINGS FIRST PSAT Scores were returned to students (SAT Prep Courses) Scheduling: Advisory #2 on 1/ Advisory #3 on 2/ CAPS on 3/21 from 3:30 to 6:30 or 3/22 from 8:00-12: (Invitations to be mailed) 4. April 5th: Deadline to make schedule changes for year 5. CTC a two-year commitment Job Shadow on 2/20 (All day)

3 A GLIMPSE TO THE FUTURE: THE SENIOR YEAR
August-November, Students apply to colleges (General Recommendation: 3-6 colleges) October 1, Student and parent/guardian (or as close as possible) complete the FAFSA May 1, Student pays deposit at college of choice

5 COLLEGE-ALL SHAPES AND SIZES
Technical Colleges (or community colleges or two-year colleges in other states): 16 in the state of SC. Locally: Tri-County Technical College and Greenville Tech Quick Jobs Programs and Certificate programs (Certificate programs short in duration) Applied Associate Degrees (Two-year degrees leading to employment) University Transfer (Two-Year degrees designed to transfer to four-year colleges). Bridge Programs (one year invitation only, residential programs)

6 FOUR-YEAR COLLEGES Private: In state or out of state-Tuition costs are the same (Anderson U, Duke University, Boston College) Public: In state less expensive ( Examples: Clemson, USC, Coastal Carolina) Out of state add additional fee (Examples: Penn. St. U., the U. of Alabama) Necessary for advanced degree programs (Master’s and Doctorate programs) and many professional programs.

College can be expensive: Tri-County TC: $5,400 (tuition and fees) Clemson University: $27,500 (tuition, fees, room and board) Princeton U.: $66,700 (tuition, fees, room and board)

8 State Government: Palmetto Fellows, Life, Hope.
Sources of Financial Aid College: Merit scholarships are typically based on a combination of SAT/ACT scores and rank in class. Each college has different criteria. State Government: Palmetto Fellows, Life, Hope.  Federal Government: Based on income and assets of the student and custodial parent(s). Complete FAFSA after Oct. 1st of the senior year. Private Scholarships: Fast Web is considered the best of many scholarship search engines. Go to Military: Military service with financial benefits for education.

a. Learn about the college in general b. Investigate degree requirements c. Investigate merit scholarships 2) Visit two colleges a. Two will help you compare and contrast b. Colleges have visitations programs (Open houses, daily tours, etc). Check with Admissions

Register with the NCAA (to play Division 1 or Division 2 sports) colleges use the common application. – 95 colleges use the coalition application. Students request transcripts to be sent at this site, information about college admissions. CAREER: –Career testing and information.
