1 Global Weather Do Nows

2 What is a surface current and what creates it?
Do Now # pg. 82 What is a surface current and what creates it? What is a deep ocean current and what creates it? What is the difference between a deep Ocean Current and a Surface Current.

3 Do Now # p.82 We observed that the warm currents start at the equator and travel towards the poles. Why do you think this pattern occurs? We observed that the cold currents start at the poles and travel towards the equator? Why? Why do you think the gyres in the Northern Hemisphere travel clockwise and counterclockwise in the Southern Hemisphere? What makes the Gyres travel in a circular pattern?

4 What are the factors that affect Ocean Surface Currents?
Do Now # NEW PAGE P. 61 What are the factors that affect Ocean Surface Currents? Why do the currents curve into circles? Which Direction do you think Global winds blow? Why???

5 Why is it coldest at the poles?
Do Now #4 Part pg. 61 Looking at the climate zones map (on pg. 57), you see it is hottest at the equator. Explain why you think it is hottest at the equator. Why is it coldest at the poles?

6 Do Now #4 (draw this) pg. 61 Same Size patch of land receives a smaller proportion of the Sun’s energy.

7 D. Why is it cold and dry at the poles?
Do Now #4 Part pg. 61 C. Looking at the climate zones map (pg. 57) you see it is not only hottest at the equator but also the wettest creating a tropical zone. Explain why you think it is so rainy at the equator? D. Why is it cold and dry at the poles?

8 Do Now # New Page pg. 65 Why do global winds curve? At what latitude would you expect the climate to be hot and wet? At what latitude would you expect the climate to be cooler and wet? What 2 North latitudinal bands would you find High pressure zones?

9 Do Now # pg. 65 Use this image of a small creature and give it 2 different adaptations for each of the 4 main biomes we learned. (TRF, Deciduous, Tundra, Desert)

10 Do Now # pg. 65 Use this image of a plant and give it 2 different adaptations for each of the 4 main biomes we learned. (TRF, Deciduous, Tundra, Desert)
