In vivo fates of patient-derived AML cells defined by mutational profile. (A) Somatic mutation profiles were identified in patient cell subpopulations defined by surface phenotype based on developmental hierarchy of human hematopoiesis. (B) The in vivo fate of each subpopulation was determined through transplantation into newborn NSG mice. If repopulation by multilineage hematopoiesis occurred, then the transplanted subpopulation contained hematopoietic or preleukemic stem cells; if AML engraftment occurred, then the transplanted subpopulation contained LICs.
