(A) Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) have rapid cell cycle with short G1 phase and can enter G0 arrest upon depletion of Myc activity. (B) Estrogen deprivation or Myc inhibition by a small molecule induces embryonic diapause equivalent to dormant ESCs. Similar dormant states may also exist in other stem cells such as HSCs and CSCs.
