1 Using Selection Filters in JMP® 12
Dan Schikore SAS, JMP (1) Abstract Process Local Data Filters are commonly used to analyze and visualize subsets of data in JMP. The Selection Filter feature of JMP 12 enables you to use any existing JMP platform as the interface to the filter. Rows selected in one platform are included in the linked analyses, and unselected rows are excluded. Multiple platforms can be configured to allow additive selection, or they can be arranged for hierarchical filtering, with one Selection Filter cascading into another to narrow the selection. Create multiple reports using any JMP platform. It can be helpful to customize your filter report by changing Outline Titles and hiding unwanted details. Select the reports and “Combine Windows” Select “Edit Application” from the Report red-triangle menu Select the report to act as the filter and choose “Use As Selection Filter” Run the application or Save to Data Table from the red-triangle menu (2-3) (5) (4)

Dan Schikore SAS, JMP Multiple Reports Process Additional reports can be added, either as part of the selection filter or as an additional filtered graph. Two display boxes control the behavior of each report. The Data Filter Source Box contains the reports that act as a filter. The Data Filter Context Box contains the Data Filter Source Box, in addition to all reports that are filtered. Start by arranging your reports and using “Combine Windows” Select the box containing the filter reports and insert the Data Filter Source Box using the toolbar Select “Edit Application” from the Report red-triangle menu Select the top level Outline Box and insert the Data Filter Context Box using the toolbar Data Filter Context Box Data Filter Source Box

Hierarchical Selection Process Two reports in a single Data Filter Source Box share a linked selection state. You can click in either graph and the selection will be reflected in the other. To create a hierarchical selection behavior, Data Filter Source Boxes can be nested to specify the hierarchy. Start by creating the Data Filter Source Box and Data Filter Context Box, as you would for shared selection. Select the secondary filter report and insert another Data Filter Source Box using the toolbar Data Filter Context Box Primary Data Filter Source Box Secondary Data Filter Source Box
