1
Air pressure: Anti-cyclones (highs) and Depressions (lows)
2
Aims To know and understand the main features of an anti-cyclone and depression To know and understand the weather conditions associated with anti-cyclones and depressions
3
Starter Complete the crossword on everything you have studied so far on weather and climate
4
Anti-cyclones An anti-cyclone occurs because of changes in the air pressure. Areas with above average pressure (high pressure) are called anti-cyclones and they usually bring good weather. Cool air is sinking so there is few clouds – in the summer this means hot sunny weather and in the winter is brings fog and frost
5
Depressions Depressions bring with them clouds and rain
They develop where warm air meets cold air The boundary where they meet is called a front Depressions are areas of low pressure Depressions usually from over the Atlantic Ocean and move from west to east
6
Depressions Click on the red labels find out more!
7
