29 The Dead Sea The Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth (1,320 feet) below sea level. It is highly concentrated with salt, so much in fact that you float rather than sink. During the Roman occupation times the Essenes settled in Qumran, located on the northern shore. In local caves they hid their library of scrolls, which became known as the Dead Sea Scrolls. Essenes is a religious group who lived there and kept secrets about the life of Jesus

Children are given much attention, and the elderly are greatly respected and cared for by their children. Large families are traditionally desired, but family sizes are declining due to economic necessity.

The father is considered head of the family and is expected to provide for the family financially while the mother is expected to take care of the children and household was true for thousands of years, however, this is changing at a fast rate.
