2. Four key things that our children will need in this whole area of guiding and shaping
Instruction
Discipline begins for our children with Mum and Dad giving instruction, asking children to do things, and (we hope) with children responding by carrying out those things! Good idea? Reasonable?

3. 2. Encouragement and praise
An atmosphere of praise is a fantastic thing to create. With forethought we can encourage them by giving them prior preparation so that they have every opportunity to do the right thing.

4. 3. Correction
It is a loving parent who seeks to discipline his child wisely and thoughtfully. “Let your gentleness be evident to all. …” (Phil.4:5 NIV). If we can approach correction with this in mind, we won’t go far wrong!

5. 4. Putting things right
Feeling sorry – Forgiving and forgetting
To say sorry only goes part of the way: it acknowledges a mistake. To ask for forgiveness demonstrates a change of heart
