Applications Working Group
G.J. Huffman, Chair Focus: Practicalities of moving data in the hands of experts to information in the hands of users Getting data: What are the barriers and opportunities? Creating estimates: What are the current limitations and new concepts? Handing out the data: What data fields, formats, and distribution schemes do users want? Training users: How do we educate users about getting, understanding, and applying precipitation data? One key tool is the IPWG web site … how can it be more effective? Results of discussion: 1. Statements of facts (and who do we want to tell?) 2. IPWG plans (and who is tasked with the action?) 3. Recommendations to CGMS (specific “please do this” agency-level actionable requests) Applications WG Introduction 1/3

• IPWG tables point to data sets that are - publicly available
- quasi-operational - quasi-global • • the tables are organized by the input data types - Table 1: Combination Data Sets with Gauge Data - Table 2: Satellite Combination Data Sets - Table 3: Single-Source Data Sets - Table 4: Precipitation Gauge Analyses - Table 5: Regional Radar Analyses [planned] • all tables show the same attributes, plus a URL or for getting the data Applications WG Introduction 2/3

Example: Table 1 (Satellite and Gauge)
• shading shows real, but not-yet released data sets Applications WG Introduction 3/3
