10th Grade CRS Spring 2018 Goals last Trimester:
Content: I can weigh the pros and cons of different college majors. Language: I can find evidence to effectively support my claim.

How did we do? Strengths:
Having a clear claim and connecting evidence to it. Connecting your evidence to yourself. Everyone got stronger at using the “Illustrate” Harris move, and many got stronger at “Authorize”

Where do we go from here? Needs:
Can still get better at understanding “Authority” when it comes to researching a topic We seemed a bit rigid in our thinking- claims didn’t really shift even after reading articles We need to use smoother, more sophisticated language when we integrate our evidence so we want to work on being open-minded and suspending judgement until we know more about an issue

What are our next steps? We are going to continue practicing writing, with a focus on using evidence to effectively support a claim. You will work as an individual, or groups of 2 or 3 You will choose a topic that you are interested in, but have questions about You will find 3-5 articles so you can “get smarter” about that topic Then we will begin the writing process It is important that they choose a topic that they are still open-minded about. If they have a really strong opinion already, they would have to be willing to change that opinion. Use Newsela as a source for articles

Write your top 3 topic choices on a sticky note. Share topic ideas with classmates. By the end of class today, have 2 topics that you are choosing between. Your thinking homework is to decide on your topic so we can begin on Thursday. It is important that they choose a topic that they are still open-minded about.
