2 Causes: Charles IV, King of France, died without an heir (someone to take over as the king). Edward III, King of England, claimed to be the rightful heir. (He was the son of Queen Isabella, previous Queen of France, who was Charles IV’s sister.) France declared Phillip VI King of France. England and France had been fighting for years over land (fiefs).

3 Major Battles Battle of Crecy - August 26, 1346: English Victory, started by King Edward III of England Battle of Poitiers – September 19, 1356: English Victory, led by Edward the Black Prince (King Edward’s son) Battle of Agincourt – October 35, 1415: English Victory, Led by King Charles V – restarting the War Seige of Orleans – May 8, 1429: French Victory, Turning Point of the War, Led by Joan of Arc Battle of Castillon – July 17, 1453: French Victory, Ended the Hundred Year War
