Final Copy Using your rough draft from Friday, compose your final copy on lined paper. Use a yellow, green, and pink highlighter to check your paragraph structure. Circle your transitions Underline any figurative language Staple everything together and turn it in! (your expository piece on top)

Introduction Paragraph Structure
Example: Aha! The truth is out! If you want to succeed in life, you have to be willing to work exceptionally hard. Hard work is necessary to be successful because it prepares us for difficult situations, teaches us lessons, and allows us to accomplish our goals. Hook- Start your paper with catchy statement about your topic. The job of this sentence is to catch your reader’s attention! Hook (image, striking statement, hyperbole, famous quotation, dialogue, onomatopoeia, alliteration) Thesis (statement giving 2-3 reasons to support their thoughts) Context- Provide information the reader will need to understand the topic. Introduction Thesis Statement- State your topic and what your paper will be about.

Body Paragraph Structure
Body Paragraph Structure (topic sentence, concrete detail, commentary, concluding sentence) Body Paragraph Evidence (history, science, books, media, current events, news--not self) Transition Words Example: First of all, the hard work you endure prepares you for life’s difficult situations. Along your journey to success, you will face many obstacles and hard days. There will be challenges and triumphs; but no matter what is thrown your way, everything you do and experience is preparing you for the difficulties that lie ahead. Hard work is not only essential for success because it prepares you for difficult situations in life, but it can also teach you valuable lessons. Topic Sentence- Provide the main idea of the paragraph Supporting Evidence- Include specific details, evidence, and commentary that supports your thesis. Body Paragraphs Circle Transitions Concluding Sentence- Connects each paragraph with the next to show how ideas work together to support the thesis!

Conclusion Paragraph Structure
Example: In the end, hard work prepares us for difficult situations, teaches us lessons, and allows us to accomplish our goals, so that we can be successful. Anything worth having in life is worth working hard for, and if hard work means success, I’m willing to work exceptionally hard. Conclusion- Provide the reader with an overview of the main ideas you discussed. Leave readers with a final thought, feeling of satisfaction, insight, etc. Conclusion
