The continent of Africa has been beset by three critical issues over the last 50+ years. They are; Famine Civil Wars leading to years of government instability, and HIV/AIDS epidemic Warm-up: A government that cheats or steals from its people.

In general African children who live in the cities have greater access to education. Several factors limit access to education in rural areas including lack of teachers and school buildings cost of transportation, school books and supplies Some children are kept home to help work the farm Warm-Up: Cholera Dysentery Malaria

Three-fourths of the world’s poorest countries are located in Africa. Extreme poverty exists in Malawi, the Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).a Warm-Up: When a country’s government is unstable, it does very little to meet the needs of its people. When plagued by political conflicts, many African nations have failed to provide education and find solutions to the issues of poverty, famine, and disease.

The Ebola epidemic in West Africa from 70% of the world’s AIDS/HIV patients live in Africa Warm-Up: Certain governments have used food as a weapon, denying humanitarian food shipments to their political enemies or seizing land from farmers who haven’t supported it during a revolution.

ANSWERS Essential Question Answer for March 22nd : When a country’s government is unstable, it does very little to meet the needs of its people. As a result many nations have failed to provide educational opportunities, and find solutions to the issues of poverty, famine, and disease. Warm-Up: Many African women are illiterate due to cultural biases that do not value the education of women.

Climate Change Last Friday (March 15th) students worldwide demonstrated in support of governments taking actions in support of climate change. Students representing over 100 countries participated in approximately 1,700 cities. Write a one-page paper describing the following. Describe in your own words, “What is Climate Change?” Why is Climate Change Important? What is your position? What actions do you think our government should take? Develop a slogan for a poster Science classes will feature lessons on Climate the week of March 25th
