2. Land Surveying
When Stephen F. Austin and other Empresarios came to Texas they had to survey their land before they could claim it
To survey land means to accurately determine points on the surface of the Earth, and they are often used to establish land maps and boundaries for ownership or governmental purposes.

3. Today… You will be the surveyors!
You will be evenly divided into 4 groups
The leader of your group will be determined whose foot is the closest in length to 12 inches
The leader will evenly space the stakes (you guys!) out along one edge of the square.
