2 Look at the following slides and make observations based on VISUAL clues.

4 Did you say they were sisters because they looked alike
Did you say they were sisters because they looked alike? Did you use facial expression and body language to INFER they were angry?

6 You probably inferred that it was cold because you KNOW snow is cold not because you could feel the picture. You might have said it was quiet because there are no people in the picture.

8 Did you use background knowledge to INFER that it was hot, sunny, or perhaps windy? The picture didn’t have a caption you could use prior knowledge to make your observation/guesses.

When we read we can make inferences as well. We use our background knowledge.

10 We can make judgments or inferences based on what we know about that subject, the author, the settings, the characters, etc.
