Major Characteristics
The range of elevation for a deciduous forest ranges to around 900 m (3,000 ft), in the Allegheny Mountains. The soil is very fertile. In fact, some of the great agricultural regions are found in this biome. It’s climate consist of four distinct seasons; spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Climate is a mix of temperature and precipitation. Deciduous forests have almost 14 inches of rain in the winter months and more than 18 inches of rain in the summer. In the autumn the leaves change color. During the winter months the trees lose their leaves. The average annual temperature in a deciduous forest is 50° F. The average rainfall is 30 to 60 inches a year. The ocean and the wind are two big factors of why the temperature and climate change so much in this biome.

Animals and Plants Ant, Bald Eagle, Beaver, Black Bear, Brown Bear, Cardinal, Collared Peccary, Fox, Frog, Mallard Duck, Deer, Dhole, Earthworm, Muskrat, Newt, Nightingale, Opossum, Porcupine, Rabbit, Raccoon, Red Fox, Red-Tailed Hawk, Scorpion, Skunk, Squirrel, Turkey, Weasel, White-Tailed Deer. The trees are more commonly known as ash, oak, lime, beech, birch and northern arrowwood. Also found in this biome are wild flowers such as oxlip, bluebells, painted trillium and primrose. As well as things such as carpet moss, tawny milk-cap mushrooms and lady fern.

Anthropogenic Problems
Acid rain caused by industrial and vehicle emissions damages the leaves of trees, and causes them to produce smaller and fewer seeds. It also reduces the trees' resistance to disease, pests, and frost. Clear cutting of forests is also a threat to this biome. Trees are cut for timber and land cleared for agriculture. Another problem associated with deciduous forests is the introduction of non-native plant and animal species because it upsets the balance of the forest ecosystem. Non-natives may compete for food and habitat space, possibly threatening the native species.

What’s Being Done To Address The Anthropogenic Problems
Recycling daily which helps to reduce the need to cut down trees for the use of paper. Also, using both sides of the paper we write on before recycling it. When we use cloth products instead of paper products we cut back on the need of cutting down trees and we are able to rewash the cloth products. Car pooling when possible because car exhaust is the main cause of the acid rain. When we walk or ride our bikes we cut back on the fumes from the exhaust pipes of cars, which is damaging our ecosystem as a whole.

Graph This graph shows the precipitation in different biomes and according to the graph the temperate deciduous forest precipitation is about 13 cm during the first three months then there is less rainfall until December.
