1 *Please turn in TKAM Questions to pink folder on side table.
Week 26: 3/21/17 Writing prompt. Atticus in the courtroom- prepare constructed response. TKAM final discussion. Essential Questions. Mock trial!

2 Writing prompt: Write about a time when something happened that WASN’T fair. Perhaps it was nearly fair, but disappointing, or not at all fair. Or maybe it was fair, but you didn’t think it was. (Bad call in sports game? Another student chosen for a role, and you didn’t think they were good? Someone preferred over yourself? An inappropriate consequence?) Write about a time when you were in the middle of a competition or fight you didn’t think you could win. What happened? How did you convince yourself to go forward anyway? Up against a bigger team in sports? Large project? Argument with a sibling who always gets the upper hand? An argument with an aunt who always wins?)

Essential Question 1: Why do we go along with injustice?

10 Talk to your group. Add anything to your response that you would like.

11 What are small moments of injustice we see in our country? State? Town?
We need to respect ALL opinions. We all have different experiences with unfairness (we hear different things from our parents, we consider different problems more important.) We can’t be going around, “Oh, I’m sure the injustice I see is in fact more important than YOUR injustice. I’m right. You’re deluded…” we defeat ourselves. We value all input. Every idea. Every mistaken idea. Every half idea. However, I do think we need an avenue for someone to respectfully raise their hand and question, add information, or dispute a problem listed on the board.

Essential Question 2

14 Return to your group Add anything to your response. Report one full statement back to class.

15 Extra credit: devise a plan to tackle one of the instances of injustice on the board. Imagine you’re covering a gap in your utopia. Think of potential problems with your plan, and solutions. Write as a paragraph, a few slides on a powerpoint, or as a specific example. If you convince me, you get 3 pts extra credit!

16 Judge. 6 prosecutors. 6 defense attorneys. 5 jurors. Mock trial Is Mr. Radley justified in his treatment of his son? Or is he guilty of excessive force?
