1 Short Term Goals Steps to Follow
GOAL SETTING Short Term Goals Steps to Follow

2 Definition: GOAL SOMETHING THAT YOU AIM FOR THAT TAKES
PLANNING AND WORK "

3 Goal Setting Steps #1 CHOOSE A SPECIFIC GOAL TO WORK TOWARDS
"If you aim at nothing, you'll hit it every time." Author unknown “Don't bunt. Aim out of the ballpark.” David Ogilvy “If you don't know where you are going, you'll end up someplace else.“ Yogi Berra

4 #2 LIST THE STEPS THAT YOU WILL TAKE TO REACH THIS GOAL
“Put your goals down on paper. Keep them where you will see them everyday. Doing this will prevent you from saying around this time next year, “oh yeah, I remember those….. "Goals that are not written down are just wishes."

5 #3 IDENTIFY OTHERS WHO CAN HELP YOU AND SUPPORT YOUR EFFORTS
Go public with your goals. Share them with family and friends. It increases the likelihood of you reaching your goals in at least two ways: 1) those close to you can hold you accountable 2) those close to you can encourage you and cheer you on. YouTube - Dick & Rick Hoyt

6 #4 GIVE YOURSELF AN IDENTIFIED PERIOD OF TIME TO REACH YOUR GOAL – A DEADLINE
Set “achievement dates” for your goals. Otherwise, we get caught in the trap of “someday.” As in, someday I’ll do that. Check out your calendar. There is Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Notice that there is no someday. So not only does someday never come, it doesn’t even exist.

8 #5 GIVE YOURSELF A REWARD ONCE YOU HAVE ACHIEVED YOUR GOAL
“There is no happiness except in the realization that we have accomplished something.” Henry Ford

9 Writing a Goal We write goals down so we do not forget them
A well written goal should have these characteristics: DOABLE – something you can realistically accomplish in the given time period SPECIFIC AND MEASURABLE – a clearly WRITTEN statement that allows you to determine if you have accomplished your goal at the end of a few weeks.

10 Make your goals SMART Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timed

11 What’s Wrong with These Goals?
Poorly Written: I want to exercise more Well Written: I WILL jog 3 days each week for atleast 20 minutes. Poorly Written: I want to eat less junk food Well Written: I WILL only eat 1 serving out of the fats, oils and sweets food group each day.

12 Poorly Written: I will eat more fruit and lift weights more often.
Well Written: I WILL eat 3 servings of fruit each day OR I WILL lift weights for 30 minutes at least 3 times each week

13 Now it is time to set a 1 week goal What is something you have been wanting to do but just have not had a chance to do – or something you would like to work on for 1 week.????? It can be a mental – physical – social – or spiritual type of goal.

14 1. State your SPECIFIC goal:
2. What are your steps to complete this goal: 3. Who can help you and how? 4. When is the deadline-end date? _______ 5. What is your reward?

15 Keep track right here - on this sheet in your folder
Day 1 _________ (today) starting right now!!!!!!!! Day 2 _________ Day 3 _________ Day 4 _________ Day 5 _________ Day 6 _________ Day 7 _________ Explain what happened? Why?? What could you do differently next time?
