P- Political--State-building, expansion, and conflict
Spain: enormous colonial empire that included most parts of Central America and North America Portugal: Ruler of Brazil

I- Interactions between humans and the environment
Natural barriers included: Pacific Ocean, Incan empire, and Atlantic Ocean Amazon River, Rio Grande River Gold, silver, tobacco, diamonds, and animal hides were all important.

C- Cultural--Development and interaction of cultures
Catholic church: provided convents as an outlet for women other than marriage. Dominicans, Franciscans, and Jesuits ruled over missionaries and converted many Native Americans.

E-Economic--Creation, expansion, and interaction of economic systems
Crops: Tobacco, Corn, Wheat, Cotton Mita: labor system used to draft natives to do work Trade: trade with other European countries, other American countries.
