Take out your Types of Language Devices flip book you made.
Take out a good pencil or pen.
You will be moving around the room today, so after getting out the things you need, put your backpack under the table in front or near the front of the classroom. Make sure your phone is turned off and in your backpack.

2. Literal Meaning
taking words in their usual or most basic sense without metaphor or any poetic device

3. Connotative Meaning
Connotation refers to positive and negative associations that most words naturally carry with them, whereas denotation is the precise, literal definition of a word that might be found in a dictionary. Words such as home, family, country, and flag have positive connotations. Stingy, stubborn, picky have negative connotations.
For example, the words childish, childlike and youthful have the same denotative, but different connotative, meanings. Childish and childlike have a negative connotation, as they refer to immature behavior of a person. Whereas, youthful implies that a person is lively and energetic.

4. Figurative meaning
 Figures of speech such as metaphors, similes, and allusions go beyond the literal meanings of the words to give readers new insights.

5. You are the expert for your term!
You will have 4 minutes at each table for all 4 people to explain their term to you and have you write the definition and example into the correct spot in your flip book.
When time is called, the two people on the north side of the table group (closest to the agenda board) will move to the next set of tables as instructed by the teacher.
