Guidelines You will have 1 week to complete all portions of the following project Each task has been assigned 1 – 2 days to help you manage your time By the end of this unit you should have a deep understanding of the ocean, ocean floor, ocean zones, organisms that live in the different zones and ways to explore the ocean floor

Day 1 Nat Geo Video Clip- As a class view short video to introduce the unit and week. Stop at 4.25 Notes – Fill in the Ocean Notes page. Complete Questions 1-3 only.

Start your project by completing the Steps below: 1. Create a Google Slides presentation and save it to your Google Drive. You will eventually turn the final version in to Google Classroom. 2. Ocean Zones Ocean life is Determined by these factors
Sunlight – most animals live near the surface – Temperature – most animals live near the surface of the ocean – it is warmer Water Pressure – most animals live near the surface – less water pressure 3 groups of ocean life Plankton – very small animals that float on or near the surface Nekton – animals that swim Benthos – animals that live on the ocean floor Life Zones Intertidal – lies between low and high tide lines Near Shore (Neritic) – extends from the low-tide line to the end of the contintal shelf Open Ocean – Lies above the continental slope or on the abyssal plain Surface (Bathyal) – begins at the continental slope and continues down meters Deep(Abyssal) – Covers the large flate abyssal plains of the ocean

Ocean Creatures 3.Presentation - Ocean Creature - Use your understanding of the ocean zones to create a new creature that can survive in your chosen zone. You need to include: The name of the creature Characteristics of the creature 3 facts about it Include all of this information in your presentation slides. Use the link below to help brainstorm ideas for your creature You must complete the worksheet questions in addition to the presentation information about your creature

Day 3 Ocean Creature Illustration – Now that you have created a new creature that can survive in your chosen zone. You also need to create an illustration of the creature. This needs to be on paper (i.e. construction, computer, lined, etc.) You can use markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc. to draw your creature.

Day 4 Ocean Creature - Complete your illustration and slides on your creature Ocean Floor – Use the Ocean Environments notes to draw a model of the ocean floor. You can find the notes on my website (Aprende).

Day 5 – the LAST DAY! Today is your day to finish all assignments from the week. Review your presentation and submit to Google Classroom. Turn in your ocean zones worksheet, creature illustration and ocean floor model to the teacher. If you finish early feel free to visit one of the following websites to play some ocean games.
