Group Activity: Non-Fiction Articles
For this assignment, there will be THREE non-fiction articles covering similar topics. I will divide the class in thirds. There will be expert groups: where everyone has the same article. Then there will be teaching groups: where everyone has different articles. In your expert groups you will become an expert on your article. Then go to the teaching group to share main ideas/themes.
6
Step 1: Read/Evaluate/Question
Read through your article. On a seperate sheet of paper, list words you do not know, phrases that stood out to you, and questions you have for your expert group. Once everyone has completed this step, work on step 2 as a group.
7
Bell Work 3/15 What is the purpose of the nonfiction activity? Why wouldn't each student read all 3 articles?
8
Step 2: Questions to Ensure Expertise
What is the author’s purpose in writing the non-fiction text? Which literary devices are present? Include excerpts and a explanation of the craft move. What is the overall theme of the article? How does the time period of when the article was published impact the message of the article?
