3. BUCS …… The BUCS sporting programme is available to the 2.3 million students across the UK. Over 100,000 students regularly compete in BUCS competitions, leagues and events. BUCS delivers 50 sports to these students and universities and organises 150 individual finals or championship events each year. 5. Small Boats Head – 23rd October Boston Rowing Club The event is being run in conjunction with GB Rowing Team and includes the 5km single sculls of their 1st Assessment. The event is being hosted by Boston Rowing Club. All student rowers will be eligible to compete in the BUCS SBH on the Sunday regardless of their erg results. Student athletes involved in the GB trials will be able to complete the requirements of the GB assessment and to represent their University Club in the SBH events on the Sunday.

7. 19 Nov – 7 Dec 2011 – BUCS Indoor Rowing Championships Regional events to be held within a period 19 November to 7 December) Each event will be monitored by an independent adjudicator Results will be collated by the BUCS office and made available on the rowing pages of the BUCS website. BUCS points will be awarded to the top 4 individual on a national basis in four categories. 1st = 12 points, 2nd = 8 points, 3rd = 6 points, 4th = 4 points BUCS medals will be awarded for the national 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category. i.e. Mens Heavyweight, Womens Heavyweight, Mens Lightweight, Womens Lightweight Each regional organiser (University) will collect their own entries and set their own entry fees - up to a maximum of £5/seat

13. BUCS Endorsed events The aim of BUCS Endorsed events is very much to encourage participation within the sport. BUCS provides third party public liability insurance, and will also have in place an agreed delivery mechanism that will ensure that each event is organised in a competent manner. These events will not offer BUCS points, medals or trophies, although the latter may be provided by the organising committee. In order to be Endorsed, it must be shown that these events will be lead by a University rowing club and will provide opportunities for members of that club to learn skills in events management, sports administration etc. The BUCS Commercial team must be informed on any commercial activity around these endorsed events and guidelines are available.

18. BUCS Rowing Regs. 2011/12 All rules are as per the British Rowing Rules of Racing and Row Safe with notable exceptions. ROW 1 Definitions ROW 1.1 Beginner: (VL points awarded) – Only open to students in their first year of rowing, regardless of discipline. No funded athletes may compete. ( where a funded athlete is defined as an individual who receives direct / individual funding.. not someone who happens to be part of a funded coaching programme ) ROW 1.2 Intermediate: (VL points awarded) - Any crew from any university can enter. No athletes who have raced in Championship of that boat type at that event can race. ROW 1.3 Championship: (VL & BUCS points awarded) - Open to all. If there is an Intermediate event in that category then only one entry per university. If no Intermediate event then multiple entries are permitted from one university, but only the highest placed crew receives the BUCS points. All crews will receive VL points. No athletes who have raced in Intermediate of that boat type at that event can race. ROW 1.4 Students cannot compete in both Intermediate and Championship statuses in the same boat type, for example, a student in an I4+ can not race in a C4+. N.B. students may race in 4+ and 4- at different statuses ROW 1.5 Lightweights: as a championship event a lightweight competing as such may not enter a Beginner or Intermediate event of the same boat type. ROW 1.6 Institutions may enter boats into the Intermediate category without entering a Championship boat

19. ROW 2 Weights ROW 2.1 Coxswains: Womens crews:50kg, Mens crews: 55kg ROW 2.2 Lightweights: Head weight: Men 75kg, Women 61.5kg, Regatta weight: Men 72.5kg, Women 59kg ROW 2.3 N.B. Lightweight crews are not averaged. The lightweight weigh-in will be from two hours before the beginning of the racing day up to 1 hour prior to the published start time of each category. If racing in more than one lightweight event the competitor need only weigh in once. Crews need to weigh in all together. All Lightweight rowers must produce photo identification at weigh-in. ROW 3 Substitutions ROW 3.1 A reserve list must be completed in addition to an Institutions entries – there will be no charge for reserve names, but the inclusion of an individual on the reserve list allows event organisers to accept that individual being substituted into a boat with the confidence of insurance cover via the Athletic Union. ROW 3.2 An unlimited number of substitutions can be made up until before the crews first race. However, these substitutions must be made from either the reserve list or between already competing crews (as long as this does not contravene any existing regulations regarding doubling up).
