2. Bellwork 9/11/12
**This will NOT be in your Bellwork Journal, but on the draft of your poem!
Read over your draft.
Mark 2-3 sentences that you really like. Make a little note next to them explaining what you liked about them.
Mark 2-3 sentences that you think you could still improve. If you can, explain why you think they need improvement.
Mark and label up to 5 examples of poetic devices that you included in your poem.

Clarify areas where you WANT/NEED help.
Reviewer’s job
Most important—Answer the writer’s questions
Make sure the poem fits the assignment criteria
Be TACTFUL—I was confused…, Could you add an example to this part…, the punctuation caused some confusion…

4. Peer Feedback and Revising Time take lots of notes about your conversation on your draft!
Find a partner
Share what you wrote from the beginning of class.
Silently read each other’s papers—if it’s okay with your partner, make notes on his/her paper addressing concerns.
Go over each person’s paper one at a time discussing the following. Author takes notes at this time.
Ask for help/tips on what you could do to improve the areas you felt were weaker.
Ask your partner to tell you what they think you’re trying to say about yourself (Reflection Question #1).
Ask them to tell you which areas led them to that conclusion (Reflection Question #2)
Is that the impression you wanted to communicate??
Ask your partner how effective they thought your use of poetic devices were. Did they have suggestions for anything else you could do stylistically?

5. On the back of your draft:
What did you learn from your partner's reading of your poem?
What do you think you’ll change on your poem for Thursday’s teacher draft? (If nothing, explain why)
Any questions you have for me about what you’re turning in Thursday? You don’t have to write this one down, just be ready to ask it! 

6. Reflection Questions
Take out your purple packets and read over the Reflection Questions.
Important notes:
Your assignment will be incomplete (and graded as such) without the Reflection Questions cover sheet.
Check the rubric for tips about how to demonstrate thoughtful reflection
In depth answers to these questions would be many sentences long. Don’t just make a statement, EXPLAIN it!
